Charting a Course Beyond Limits
Siyaxolisa Kwikwi’s journey is one of ambition, courage, and stepping into the unknown. After joining the iGEMS programme in 2017 while attending Newton Technical High School (Matric 2018), he began unlocking opportunities that would take him far beyond what he had imagined.
He completed his work experience at Jendamark Automation, where he gained hands-on experience in wiring electrical panels and programming automated systems—a strong technical foundation that would shape his future in engineering.
Siyaxolisa went on to study BEngTech in Marine Engineering at Nelson Mandela University, positioning himself within a highly specialised and globally relevant field.
Today, he is an Engine Cadet at the Magsaysay Institute of Shipping, training as a Marine Engineer. His role involves working with complex shipboard systems, including:
- Main and auxiliary engines
- Diesel generators
- Power distribution systems
- Pump systems
- Oily water separators and purifiers
The iGEMS Impact
Siyaxolisa describes iGEMS as life-changing:

The programme gave him the confidence to pursue opportunities beyond his comfort zone and believe in his potential.
